[Dublin, IRELAND] - The feed industry is currently confronted with two challenges: feeding a hungry world and providing the world with energy. As part of this development, Alltech recently expanded their yeast facility in São Pedro in Brazil, which is the world's largest yeast producing plant with a capacity to produce more than 100,000 tonnes of Alltech products such as NuPro, Mycosorb® and Sel-Plex® per year. The expansion of the facility includes an additional new state-of-the-art spray dryer.

Mark Lyons, director of global projects, Alltech, explained that "This is a significant advancement for Alltech, particularly since this enables the company to further supply leading products across the globe. This dryer was built using proprietary technology that will lead to the expansion of Alltech's product range and product capabilities. It also enables Alltech to contribute further to local development within the area."

The new spray dryer is of critical importance to meeting the escalating demand for NuPro, which has increased in sales by 58% globally in 2007.

NuPro is a functional nutrient source manufactured from the inner cell contents of a specific strain of the yeast saccharomyces cerevisae1026. It is a rich source of highly digestible amino acids as well as having high nucleotide content. Nucleotides hold a specific function in the development of skeletal and cardiac muscle, hepatic and intestinal tissue, and the development and maintenance of the immune system. NuPro is essential in the diet of young animals including swine, poultry, dairy, aquaculture and pet.

Pictured towering above the world's largest yeast facility, Alltech São Pedro, is the new state-of-the-art full grid spray dryer. This rocket like spray dryer is constructed of stainless steel and is capable of producing over three truck loads of NuPro a day.
