Alltech Expands Brazilian Facility

[Lexington, KENTUCKY] – Furthering its commitment to quality and traceability, Alltech, a global leader in animal health and nutrition, has expanded its production facility in São Pedro, Brazil by adding a fully automated blending and packaging system.

The state-of-the-art system allows Alltech to take product from its yeast facility by pulling from each of four large-scale spray dryers, blending, packaging and palletizing automatically. The system is expected to enable the company to package more than 60,000 tonnes per year and distribute on a global scale. The system was supplied by Buhler, one of Alltech’s global technology partners.

"The addition of this system to our facility in São Pedro has allowed us to further ensure that our natural solutions are of the highest quality by offering full traceability," said Dr. Pearse Lyons, president and founder of Alltech. "The technology involved in this is incredible when you consider that from the time material leaves the yeast plant, our staff is required to touch nothing more than a computer screen until a product has been packaged, palletized and wrapped."

The facility, the largest of its kind in the world, is home to several of Alltech's products, including Bio-Mos®, MTB-100®, Sel-Plex® and NuPro®, and consistently meets the company’s rigorous standards of quality.

The Alltech Quality System (AQS) is currently in operation in 14 production facilities and 68 blending and warehouse sites across the globe. The system, which is strictly enforced at all stages of production, as well as upon receipt of the raw material and when shipping, aims to instil confidence in relation to quality, safety, traceability and consistency of all Alltech products.

Alltech’s mission is to improve animal health and performance by adding nutritional value to animal feed and, through this, enhance the performance of the animal and increase animal production. Since it was founded 28 years ago, the company has developed a strong regional presence throughout the world with 1,900 employees and a presence in 113 countries. Alltech will host its 24th International Animal Health and Nutrition Symposium, focusing on the ‘Greenest Generation’, April 20-23, 2008 in Lexington, Kentucky, USA.
