Mr. John Long, ChairmanJohn Long
currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the United States
Equestrian Federation. Prior to being named the first CEO of USEF in
2003, Long was the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer
of Churchill Downs, Inc. Long also served as the President and COO at
Ladbroke/USA and has been involved in the equine industry for over 20
years.
Mr. John Nicholson, PresidentA native of Winchester, Kentucky, John Nicholson has been Executive Director of the Kentucky Horse Park since June 1997. Prior to being appointed to this position, he was the Horse Park’s Deputy Director. From 1994-96 he was Director of Sales for the launch of the international equestrian trade show, Equitana USA. He began his association with the Kentucky Horse Park from 1991-94 while serving as the Park’s Director of Operations. He is a former President of the Kentucky Horse Council and Chairman of the Kentucky Horse Fair. He served on the Board of Directors of the Horse Industry Alliance, a national marketing council for the equine industry. Currently, he serves as President of the World Games 2010 Foundation.
Mrs. Jane BeshearJane Beshear, current First Lady of the Commonwealth is an active equine enthusiast with over 20 years of volunteer service to the Kentucky Horse Park Foundation and Equestrian Event, Inc., which organizes the Kentucky Rolex 3-Day Event.
Ms. Alston M. KerrAlston M. Kerr currently serves as the Chairperson of the Kentucky Horse Park Commission. She has been an active volunteer at the Kentucky Horse Park for the past 30 years serving as the Chairperson of the Kentucky Horse Park Foundation. She is past president of Equestrian Events, Inc. which hosts the Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event each spring at the park. She is an active equine advocate for many horse organizations, an owner, rider and horse lover.
Mayor Jim NewberryAlthough this is his first elected position, Newberry is not new to public service, having served as an Executive Officer in the Office of Lieutenant Governor Brereton Jones, focusing on agriculture, economic development and health care issues. Later, he served as Acting Secretary of Kentucky’s Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Cabinet.
Ms. Tandy Patrick, Esq.Tandy Patrick is an attorney with Greenebaum Doll & McDonald PLLC,
which concentrates on commercial real estate and equine Law. Ms.
Patrick owns, breeds, and rides American Saddlebred horses. She also
sits on the boards of the Louisville Water Company, Shakertown Race for
Education, Greater Louisville Sports Commission, and the Kentucky State
Fair Board.
Mr. Porter G. Peeples, Sr.Porter G. Peeples, Sr. currently serves as President/CEO of the Urban League of Lexington – Fayette County, a position he’s held since 1972. Peeples serves on numerous boards, local and nationally.
Secretary Marcheta SparrowSecretary Sparrow has spent more than 30 years in the tourism industry with experience both in the public and private sector, previously serving as President/CEO of the Kentucky Tourism Council.
Mr. Joe Terry, Esq.Joseph H. Terry is the Managing Partner of the Lexington office of Dinsmore & Shohl, LLP, a 360 person full service law firm. Mr. Terry is a business transactional attorney with a national niche practice in the legal aspects of sports marketing and sports management.
Mr. Samuel G. Barnes
Samuel G. Barnes is President of Fifth Third Bank, Central Kentucky. Barnes is active in various business, civic and charitable organizations. Barnes and his wife Sue have two sons, one in Atlanta and the other in Cleveland with their daughter-in-law, and granddaughter and grandson.
Mr. Mike Cooper
Mike Cooper was appointed Commissioner of the Kentucky Department of Travel and Tourism in December 2007. He is a 23-year veteran of Kentucky state government with extensive domestic and international tourism experience.
Ms. Becky JordanMs. Jordan is the owner of Becky Jordan Insurance Agency. She also serves as a KHP Commissioner and Foundation board member. Ms. Jordan is a Member of the AQHA , is active on numerous committees for the NRHA and USEF. She is also a quarter Horse breeder and reining competitor. Her husband Harold is a thoroughbred trainer and daughter Lyndsey, a Junior at Auburn University, is a competitor on the Reining Equestrian team
Mr. David LordDavid Lord is the President of the Lexington Convention & Visitor Bureau. As President of the Lexington Bureau, Lord manages a full-time staff of 18. The Bureau's primary responsibility is to make money for Lexington by bringing more visitors, group tours, meetings and conventions to the city.
Dr. Everett McCorvey, D.M.A.
Everett McCorvey, a native of Montgomery, Alabama is the Lexington Opera Society Endowed Chair in Opera Studies at the University of Kentucky. McCorvey is the Founder and Music Director of the American Spiritual Ensemble as well as serving as the Vice-Chair of the Kentucky Arts Council, a Faculty Representative at U.K., and also being on the U.K. Board of Trustees.
Secretary Jonathan MillerJonathan Miller serves as Kentucky’s Secretary of Finance and Administration. His cabinet operates as the hub of state government, and Miller serves on dozens of state boards, covering policy matters which range from higher education to environmental protection.
